Benue State has verified substantial gold deposits in Kwande Local Government Area and aluminium reserves along its riverine belts, heralding a new era for the state's solid minerals sector.
Director of Solid Minerals Anselm Nege revealed the breakthrough in an exclusive Guardian interview, stating that government oversight is intensifying to regulate operations and stamp out illegal mining.
“We have confirmed gold in Kwande and aluminium in riverine areas,” Nege said. “Activities are underway but largely unorganised and sometimes illegal.
We’re monitoring closely to manage economic and environmental risks.”Hailing the finds as a game-changer, Nege added that they position Benue as a rising star in Nigeria’s mining map.
Chief Risk Officer of Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), Andrew Simon Mbaiorga, stressed the potential for sustainable wealth if harnessed correctly.
“With the right investors and partnerships, this can become a formal, profitable industry,” Mbaiorga said.
“A new regulatory board is already coordinating indigenous miners to attract credible players.”
He projected job creation, revenue surges, and improved livelihoods, urging strict adherence to global standards.
The discoveries align with Benue’s broader economic push, including its pioneering electric taxi fleet, new investment leadership, and a completed ultra-modern mall.
