The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Peek Vision, a global leader in digital eye-care solutions, to accelerate the elimination of avoidable blindness across the country.
The partnership will deploy cutting-edge digital tools for eye screening nationwide, strengthen the capacity of primary healthcare workers, and establish real-time data systems to drive evidence-based decision-making in Nigeria’s eye-health ecosystem.
According to official data, millions of Nigerians suffer from preventable visual impairment, primarily due to cataracts and uncorrected refractive errors.
The new initiative aims to close critical gaps in eye-care delivery by integrating smartphone-based screening technology, comprehensive training for frontline health workers, and robust national data infrastructure.
The MoU is also expected to bolster Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by making quality eye-care services more accessible, especially in rural and underserved communities.
The collaboration marks a significant step toward achieving the national goal of eliminating avoidable blindness and ensuring no Nigerian loses their sight to conditions that can be prevented or treated.
