The Federal Government has expressed strong readiness to partner with the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) in boosting local production of pharmaceutical products as part of efforts to improve affordable and accessible healthcare for Nigerians.
The assurance was given by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the PSN led by its National President, Pharmacist Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, at the SGF’s office in Abuja.
Senator Akume reiterated the government’s commitment to the well-being of citizens through enhanced healthcare delivery, saying the administration is open to meaningful collaboration with professional bodies like the PSN to achieve self-sufficiency in medicine production and reduce dependence on imports.
During the visit, the PSN president briefed the SGF on preparations for the Society’s centenary celebration scheduled for March 27, 2027.
The milestone event will feature nationwide public enlightenment campaigns, free health outreaches, and a series of high-profile public lectures aimed at promoting pharmacy practice and public health awareness.
The planned partnership is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity and contribute to the overall revitalization of the nation’s healthcare sector.
