The Federal Government has announced plans to establish a comprehensive database for farmers, capturing details such as farm sizes and locations to ensure full identification and traceability of agricultural produce.
Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, disclosed the initiative during an event in Maiduguri, emphasizing collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for its implementation.
"The registry will provide a clear window to identify genuine farmers and assess their eligibility for targeted government interventions," Kyari stated.
As part of the rollout, the Ministry distributed essential farming equipment to smallholder farmers, vulnerable groups, and farmers' associations across Borno State.
The Minister highlighted that the support is designed to lower production costs and significantly enhance overall agricultural productivity among beneficiaries.
