Ex-Kogi Governor, Idris Wada Defects to APC

Former Kogi State Governor Idris Wada has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), receiving his membership card during a ceremony at his country home in Odu, Dekina Local Government Area, on Saturday.

The move marks a formal end to Wada's long association with the PDP and signals a strategic boost for the APC in the Kogi East Senatorial District.

According to David Alfred-Dogwo, Wada's media aide, the former governor remains upbeat about his political prospects.

“The brief but significant ceremony marks Capt. Wada’s formal entry into the APC, signalling a new chapter in his political journey and reinforcing the party’s growing influence in Kogi East Senatorial District,” he stated.

The event drew APC leaders, supporters, and well-wishers from across the LGA. “Capt. Wada’s defection is expected to strengthen the APC’s foothold in Dekina and bolster its preparations ahead of future electoral contests in the state and that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027,” Alfred-Dogwo added.

Wada governed Kogi State under the PDP from January 2012 to January 2016 but lost his re-election bid in a controversial 2015 poll.

The November 21 election was declared inconclusive, prompting a supplementary vote on December 5.

Tragically, APC candidate Abubakar Audu died the day after the initial election on November 22. Ultimately, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared APC substitute Yahaya Bello the winner.
