DSS Raids Bauchi Village, Arrests Notorious Zamfara Bandit, Recovers Cash, Ammunition

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a high-profile bandit who had relocated from Zamfara State and was hiding in Bojinji Village on the outskirts of Bauchi metropolis.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect, who claimed to be fleeing persecution in Zamfara, moved to Bauchi with his family and blended into the community.

Bauchi has in recent years become a refuge for thousands displaced by banditry in neighbouring states, but criminal elements have exploited this humanitarian corridor to evade capture.

The surprise raid, executed without prior warning to residents, led to the recovery of millions of naira in cash and a large cache of ammunition from the suspect’s residence.

Intelligence operatives had monitored the suspect’s lavish lifestyle, including all-day drinking sessions at Unguwar Yelwan Angas where he freely bought alcohol for others, which raised red flags despite his low-profile appearance.

“No one in the community suspected he was a wanted bandit until the DSS stormed his house,” a source familiar with the operation said.

Security agencies have renewed appeals to residents to report individuals whose source of wealth or lifestyle appears suspicious, stressing that community vigilance remains key to dismantling criminal networks hiding in plain sight.

The arrested bandit is currently in DSS custody, while intensive interrogation and investigations continue to uncover the full scope of his operations and possible accomplices within Bauchi State.
