Drug Cartel Abandons Two Buses Loaded With Cannabis in Edo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State has dealt a major blow to drug traffickers, intercepting a colossal consignment of 1,455 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa along the Okhokho-Isi community route in the Uhunmwode Local Council.

The massive drug haul was found across two abandoned Toyota Sienna buses following a high-speed chase by dedicated NDLEA operatives.

In a statement released in Benin, the Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, confirmed the successful operation. He noted that the intercepted vehicles were suspected to have originated from Okpuje, a community known for cannabis cultivation and trafficking.

The seized vehicles and their contents were detailed as follows:

Vehicle 1: A light blue Toyota Sienna (Reg. No. EPE 545 EV), carrying 666 kilogrammes of dried cannabis.

Vehicle 2: A dark ash Toyota Sienna (Reg. No. ABC 142 CD), containing 789 kilogrammes of the illicit substance.

The total weight of the seized drugs amounted to 1,455 kilogrammes.

Traffickers Escape, Investigation Intensifies

Commander Ofoyeju confirmed that no suspects were arrested during the operation, as the drug trafficking cartel abandoned the vehicles and managed to flee during the hot pursuit.

However, the Commander issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, assuring the public that the agency is intensifying its efforts to apprehend those responsible.

“The ongoing investigations signify our relentless approach towards eradicating drug trafficking in Edo State... We are prepared and committed to enforcing the law with unprecedented measures against harmful substances and their distributors,” Ofoyeju stated.

He also urged residents of Edo State to remain vigilant and support the anti-drug abuse fight by reporting any suspicious activities to the agency.
