Benue Police Intercept Child Trafficking Ring, Arrest Three Women, Rescue Eight Children


Operatives of the Benue State Police Command have arrested three women suspected of child trafficking and rescued eight minors who were being transported from Plateau State to Anambra State.


The suspects – Monica Okonkwo, Nkiru Nwosu, and Francisca Oyechele, all from Umude Oka in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, were intercepted on Thursday, November 20, at about 5:05 p.m. during a routine patrol along the Orokam–Enugu road by officers attached to Orokam Division.


Security sources revealed that the eight children, aged between 7 and 9 years, were allegedly taken from Divine Peace and Grace Orphanage in Jos, Plateau State, under questionable circumstances.


The rescued children are:

Amanda Chukwujekwu (8) 

Chioma Maduagwu (8) 

Oyechegi Kosisochukwu (9)

Okonkwo Odinaka Chukwu (9)

Arinze Chukwu (7)

Oluchukwu Esther (9)

and two others yet to be fully identified.

 

The children have been placed in protective custody while the suspects remain in detention for further investigation.Police authorities vowed to dismantle the entire trafficking network and ensure all accomplices are brought to justice. 


Efforts are underway to contact the orphanage management in Jos and relevant authorities in Plateau State for clarification and possible complicity.


The command urged members of the public with useful information to come forward as the investigation continues.
