The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged the Federal Government to honor its commitment and finalize negotiations within the one-month window granted to avert the resumption of a suspended strike.
In a statement signed by National President Prof. Chris Piwuna, the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) assessed developments since suspending its warning strike two weeks ago.
ASUU rejected a proposed salary increase, describing it as inadequate to reverse the brain drain crippling Nigeria’s university system.
While acknowledging progress in closing gaps on some non-monetary issues, the union emphasized that salary and conditions of service remain unresolved and critical.
ASUU called on stakeholders, particularly those who intervened to secure the strike’s suspension last month to press the government to negotiate in good faith and conclude the process promptly.
