Wike Warns PDP Governors: Excluding Me Risks Party’s Collapse

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of sidelining him from key party decisions, warning that their approach could lead to the party’s downfall.

Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Friday, October 24, 2025, Wike expressed frustration over his exclusion from major consultations despite his significant contributions to the PDP.

“Have I not warned that the booby traps you’re setting will consume you? The way these governors are operating, they will bury this party,” Wike stated.

He challenged the justification for his exclusion, questioning, “I am the FCT Minister. Are you saying because I’m not a governor, you can hold a PDP stakeholders’ meeting and exclude me, and expect the party to survive?”

Wike argued that his long-standing role in the PDP warrants his inclusion in decision-making processes, even without a governorship position.

“Given the role I’ve played in the PDP, is it right to say I shouldn’t be consulted? Certainly not,” he asserted.Dismissing claims that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is responsible for the PDP’s internal crises, Wike insisted the party’s troubles are self-inflicted.

“All this talk about APC is nonsense. Is it APC that makes you take wrong decisions? You mean two or three governors, because they receive large allocations, can decide for the party, and I’m expected to follow?” he questioned.

Wike also criticized the PDP leadership for failing to complete essential processes, such as congresses, ahead of the party’s planned national convention, which he said is hindering progress.

“If they had done the right thing, would anyone stall the convention? They haven’t conducted the congresses or put other necessary measures in place,” he noted.

The PDP has been grappling with internal turmoil, including defections by prominent members like Governors Peter Mbah (Enugu), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), as well as multiple legal battles surrounding its upcoming convention.
