In a successful clearance patrol in Gajiram, Borno State, troops of Operation Desert Sanity IV and Lake Sanity III neutralized four ISWAP terrorists and rescued two kidnapped victims along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna road.
The operation took place at approximately 2:35 p.m. on Thursday, according to security sources cited by Zagazola Makama.
The troops, consisting of 16 soldiers and eight Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members on ten motorcycles, were ambushed by terrorists in the Zundur area, leading to an intense gun battle. Four terrorists were killed, while others escaped with gunshot wounds into nearby bushes.
During the operation, two hostages, Mr. Modu Kinnami, 55, and Mr. Bukar, 57, both from Guzamala Local Government Area, were freed.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the terrorists had demanded ₦2 million and two new Tecno button phones as ransom for their brother’s release.
Items recovered included a blue pickup vehicle (registration GUB 327 XA), two new Tecno button phones, a 30-litre jerrycan of petrol, and ₦4,355,000 in cash.
The security situation in the area remains calm but unpredictable, with troops maintaining high morale and satisfactory combat efficiency.
