Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that several governors from opposition parties are finalizing arrangements to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing the shift to the visible achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the past two years.
Akpabio made the disclosure on Tuesday during a goodwill message at the launch of a book titled Ten Years of Impactful Leadership of the APC Administration in Nigeria, authored by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, in Owerri, alongside the commissioning of projects by President Tinubu.
“Mr. President, with what you have done in the last two years, get ready to receive more governors from the opposition parties. As I speak, there are several governors in Nigeria today that are ready to be received by you,” he stated.
He emphasized that Nigerians, including students, farmers, and business owners, are beginning to appreciate the reforms and policies of the Tinubu administration, which are yielding positive results across sectors.
“If we say it, they will accuse us of rubber-stamping your achievements, but the beneficiaries are the ones talking about what you have done,” Akpabio added.
The remarks come amid recent defections, such as those of Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Akpabio also commended Uzodimma for documenting the APC’s decade-long impact, stressing that progress is demonstrated through action rather than rhetoric, and reflected on his own progressive record as former Akwa Ibom governor.
