Wives of incarcerated Nigerian soldiers have raised an outcry over what they call a grave injustice, condemning a system that keeps their husbands behind bars for alleged military offenses while pardoning Boko Haram insurgents.
In an emotional appeal during a peaceful protest outside the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, the women decried the paradox of their spouses, heroes who risked their lives battling terrorism, languishing in detention, while former insurgents responsible for widespread violence are being reintegrated into society.
The protesters urged the federal government and military authorities to review the cases of their spouses, demanding fair trials and clemency for those who sacrificed to protect Nigeria.
The group called for urgent reforms to address the disparity, emphasizing that restoring dignity to soldiers’ families is critical to maintaining morale in the armed forces.
Military officials are yet to respond officially, but sources indicate the issue has sparked internal discussions.
