Patrick Umoh, a House of Representatives member from Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara in Akwa Ibom, has denounced what he describes as a “malicious campaign of blackmail” against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The condemnation follows allegations by Patience Akpabio, the Senate President’s sister-in-law, who linked him to killings in Akwa Ibom via social media posts.
In a Monday statement, Umoh, who previously served as Akpabio’s senior legislative aide and special assistant, labeled the accusations “false and disrespectful.”
He urged Patience to halt her “unprovoked and dishonourable” attacks, warning of the emotional, reputational, and moral damage to Akpabio, his family, and the Essien Udim community.
Umoh emphasized Akpabio’s dedication to public service and national unity, based on his firsthand experience working with him. He called for Patience to reflect on her actions and cease the defamatory campaign.
The Afe Nkuku Annang, a body of traditional rulers in Annang land, has summoned Patience over her alleged inciting posts.
Akpabio’s spokesperson, Eseme Eyiboh, criticized her for not reporting claims to security agencies, stating that allegations of murder should not be used for political vendettas and must be substantiated.
