Governor Mbah Meets President Tinubu at State House

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, marking his first official engagement with the federal leadership since defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) earlier this month.

The visit, confirmed by Mbah in a post on his official X account, focused on strategies to enhance collaboration between Enugu State and the federal government, aiming to drive inclusive development and economic prosperity for the Southeast region.

Mbah, who was elected on the PDP platform in 2023, announced his switch to the APC on October 14, 2025, alongside his predecessor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and several state and federal lawmakers.

He described the move as a "strategic partnership" to align Enugu's growth agenda with national policies under the Tinubu administration.

In his X post, Mbah stated: "Today, I had the honour of meeting with His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the State House, Abuja.

We discussed ways to strengthen collaboration between Enugu State and the Federal Government to deliver greater prosperity for our people.

Enugu remains fully committed to playing its part in building a stronger, united, and more prosperous Nigeria."

The governor emphasized that the discussions underscored the potential for transformative change, particularly in areas like infrastructure, security, and foreign direct investment, amid recent federal reforms such as foreign exchange unification and fuel subsidy removal, which he said have already begun attracting inflows to Enugu.

President Tinubu's meeting with Mbah coincided with separate audiences for two PDP senators—Agom Jarigbe (Cross River North) and Kaila Samaila Dahuwa (Bauchi North)—who also defected to the APC this week, citing internal PDP crises and alignment with Tinubu's reform agenda.

Sources close to the Presidency indicated that Tinubu welcomed the Enugu delegation warmly, viewing the defections as a boost to the APC's foothold in the opposition-strong Southeast.
