The Obidient Movement has sharply criticized Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for calling Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, a “social media president.”
Wike’s remarks came after Obi visited a local authority school in the FCT, highlighting the deplorable state of public facilities.
Speaking on Thursday, Wike accused Obi of politicizing national issues, stating, “One of the social media presidential candidates went to a local authority school and said the government has abandoned public schools. His name is Mr. Peter Obi. Not everything should be about politics.”
In response, Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, dismissed Wike’s comments as a publicity stunt.
“How will Wike stay relevant if he doesn’t mention Peter Obi?” Tanko remarked during a town hall meeting in Nnewi, Anambra State, emphasizing the large turnout at the event.
Tanko downplayed Wike’s criticism, calling him the least of their concerns, and defended Obi’s observations about the poor state of public schools in the FCT.
“I saw the dilapidated buildings myself,” Tanko said. “We also visited a clinic with only one nurse on duty and roads that are barely accessible.”
He stressed that Obi’s comments were meant to draw attention to urgent national issues, not to play politics.
