Nigerian Army Refutes Claims of Bandit Attacking Troops in Kwara

The Nigerian Army has debunked a misleading online report claiming that bandits overran its troops and seized weapons in Obanla, Kwara State, labeling it as false and intended to deceive the public.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Lt.-Col. Polycarp Okoye, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 2 Division, clarified that troops from 148 Battalion (Rear) have been achieving significant success in ongoing clearance operations across Kogi and Kwara States.

He highlighted a recent operation along the Kwara–Ekiti border, where troops neutralized two armed bandits and recovered two new AK-47 rifles.

Okoye firmly denied any claims of overrun positions or lost weapons, calling the report a fabrication meant to undermine troop morale.

He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to combating criminality nationwide and urged the public to ignore the false narrative while providing credible information to support military efforts.

The Army remains steadfast in its mission to dismantle criminal networks in Kogi, Kwara, and surrounding areas, Okoye added.
