The Defense Industries System (DIS) has finalized a new $230 million contract with Pakistan for the supply of 30 K-8 trainer/attack aircraft, 40 Shahpar-2 drones, 200 MR-10 drones, and 230 ASV Mohafiz-IV armored vehicles, replacing a previously stalled agreement.
General Mirghani Idris, DIS Director and a figure under U.S. and European sanctions, announced the deal after overcoming technical and political hurdles that derailed the original August 24, 2025, agreement.
A DIS delegation, including senior officials like Lieutenant General Magdi Ibrahim and Colonel Engineer Abd Al-Aleem Al-Tayeb Al-Awad, met Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Defense Production, Muhammad Raza Hayat Harraj, in Islamabad to seal the terms.
The renegotiation was prompted by China’s refusal to export HQ-9 and HQ-16 air defense systems due to its policy against supplying conflict zones or sanctioned nations.
Additionally, third-party suppliers’ reluctance to provide engines and navigation systems for MiG-21 aircraft forced both parties to restructure the deal with alternative equipment.
Under the new logistics plan, aircraft and armored vehicles will arrive via Port Sudan, while drones will be delivered to Wadi Sayyidna Air Base on a mutually agreed schedule.
