The House of Representatives has voted to investigate the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the alleged squandering of over $25 million in development grants from FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) between 2015 and 2025.
The resolution was passed during Tuesday's plenary session after adopting a motion sponsored by Rep. Adedayo Adesola (Apapa, Lagos) and Rep.Nwaeke Uche.
Presenting the motion, Adesola highlighted a lack of visible progress despite the massive inflows, stating: “Between 2015 and 2025, NFF allegedly received development funds in excess of USD 25 million from FIFA and CAF with nothing tangible on the ground to justify the huge capital inflow.”
He cited specific cases, including a 2016 FIFA audit that flagged $802,000 of a $1.1 million grant as undocumented, prompting then-Sports Minister Solomon Dalung to demand an independent review.
Adesola also referenced ongoing probes by the EFCC and ICPC into NFF officials, including former president Amaju Pinnick, over alleged mismanagement between 2018 and 2019.A trending social media report claims the NFF spent $1.2 million on the Birnin Kebbi stadium, yet a physical inspection revealed a substandard facility.
In contrast, the Kenyan Football Federation used an identical grant to build a fully equipped, high-quality venue.
With the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers approaching, Adesola urged immediate action to curb further misuse of public funds.Speaker Tajudeen Abbas put the motion to a voice vote, which passed unanimously.
The House directed its Committee on Sports to summon NFF leadership and conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged fund mismanagement.
