Court Adjourns Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial to October 16, Awaits Medical Report

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, has postponed the terrorism trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to October 16, as the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has yet to complete its assessment of his health.

At the prior hearing, Justice Omotosho ordered the NMA President to assemble a panel of medical experts to evaluate Kanu’s condition and determine if the Department of State Services (DSS) facilities can adequately address his medical needs or if a transfer to the National Hospital is warranted, as Kanu’s legal team requested.

The report will also clarify whether Kanu is fit to stand trial.During Wednesday’s session, DSS counsel Suraj S’aad (SAN) reported that the NMA panel needed more time to finalize its findings and requested a one-week adjournment. Kanu’s counsel, Chief Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), raised no objections.

Justice Omotosho granted the request, adjourning the case to October 16 for the submission of the medical report and further proceedings.
