The People’s Republic of China has praised the Nigerian government for the successful rescue of four Chinese nationals kidnapped in Kwara State, highlighting the effectiveness of a joint operation by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian military.
The commendation was delivered by Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, through Consul Wang Jun, during a handover ceremony on Sunday at the DSS medical facility in Abuja.
The rescued individuals, identified as Dansu Zhou, Zhou Hai, Zhou Jia Jun, and Fan Xiu Guo, were freed on Saturday following a rapid, intelligence-driven operation involving the ONSA, DSS, Nigerian Army, and Police.
The group had been ambushed and abducted by a seven-man gang armed with AK-47 rifles while en route to a mining site in Saminaka village, Yagba West LGA, Kogi State.
Consul Wang Jun expressed gratitude for the DSS’s swift response and exceptional medical care provided to the victims at its state-of-the-art facility in Abuja.
“The DSS promptly took our citizens to their facility for medical evaluation, where they were thoroughly examined by top professionals before being transferred to our embassy,” Wang noted.
He added that the Chinese government was previously unaware of the advanced capabilities of the DSS medical facility, which significantly aided the victims’ recovery.
The operation is part of a broader crackdown by the DSS on criminal syndicates across Nigeria, including recent efforts that disrupted arms trafficking and dismantled criminal networks.
Stakeholders have particularly hailed a recent DSS operation in Asaba, Delta State, where seven General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), along with other arms and ammunition, were intercepted, underscoring the agency’s commitment to curbing insecurity and fostering stability.
The Chinese embassy’s commendation reflects growing international confidence in Nigeria’s security apparatus as it intensifies efforts to combat kidnapping and related crimes nationwide.
