Armed bandits attacked a Nigeria Customs Service checkpoint along the Luma-Babana Road in New Bussa, Niger State, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, killing one officer, Suleiman Mohammed Bamazi, a Customs camp assistant from New Bussa.
The assault followed the interception of suspected bandit informants and food suppliers transporting fuel in jerry cans on motorcycles at Luma Audu Fari-Kuka village.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the bandits stormed the checkpoint and opened fire after receiving information about the interception, resulting in Bamazi’s death.
The deceased’s remains were evacuated to the General Hospital in New Bussa for an autopsy. Security forces are actively pursuing the assailants, while the situation in surrounding areas along the axis remains calm and under control, authorities reported.
