Kenechi Ndukaife Atuchukwu, 45, and Michael Okoya, both Nigerian nationals, appeared in Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court, North West, South Africa, charged with possession and dealing in drugs.
The arrests followed a two-year investigation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, guided by the National Prosecuting Authority’s Organised Crime Component.
Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula, North West Hawks spokesperson, revealed that Atuchukwu was caught selling drugs during an undercover operation, leading to his arrest on Friday in Klerksdorp.
Okoya, linked to the same case, was arrested the previous week for alleged drug dealing. The court postponed the matter to September 29 for a formal bail application, with both suspects remaining in custody.
Brigadier Georgia Moos, acting head of the Hawks in North West, and Dr. Rachel Makhari, Director of Public Prosecutions, commended the arrests as a significant step in combating drug-related crime.
