Troops Crush Terrorists, Free Hostages, Seize N23m Ransom in Zamfara, Sokoto Raids

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have dealt a significant blow to terrorists in Zamfara and Sokoto states, intercepting over N23 million in suspected ransom payments, rescuing eight kidnapped victims, recovering 160 rustled livestock, and neutralizing six terrorists during operations from September 8 to 10, 2025.

Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

The operations, spanning Shinkafi, Gusau, Bukkuyum, and Tureta Local Government Areas, began with offensives along the Shinkafi-Katuru-Galadi-Tubali axis.

Troops from 1 Brigade Forward Operating Base Shinkafi and the Mobile Strike Team cleared terrorist hideouts in Galadi and Tubali villages, forcing bandits to flee, many with gunshot wounds.

Stop-and-search operations at Katuru Bridge led to the arrest of five suspects carrying N8.7 million and N15 million, believed to be ransom payments for abductions along Nigeria’s border with Niger Republic.

The suspects and funds have been handed over for further investigation. In parallel efforts, troops in Anka and Tureta LGAs ambushed terrorists rustling livestock from Talata Mafara and Tureta to Bagega and Furagirke forests.

The bandits fled, abandoning eight kidnap victims and 164 sheep, which were recovered and returned to their respective communities.

However, a patrol in Gusau LGA faced heavy terrorist fire along Lilo-Kofi Road, resulting in the deaths of three soldiers and two others succumbing to injuries after neutralizing six terrorists.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to eradicating terrorism and banditry, urging the public to provide timely information to support ongoing efforts to restore peace in the Northwest and parts of the North Central region.
