The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Colombia and Venezuela in a couple of international friendly games in November.
In a statement on Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation
(NFF) announced that both games will be played in the US.
The Eagles will take on Venezuela on November 14 at the
Shell Stadium in Houston, Texas, with kick-off billed for 2 am Nigerian time.
The team will also face Colombia at Citi Field Stadium in
Flushing Meadows, a borough of Queens, New York, on November 18 at 1:00 am
Nigerian time.
Colombia have qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the
US. However, Venezuela fell short of the target by two points.
Nigeria are also in a challenging situation in their pursuit
of one of Africa’s nine automatic tickets to the World Cup.
The Eagles sit in third in Group C of the qualifiers, six
points behind South Africa, the leaders, with only two games left. The team is
on the brink of failing to qualify for consecutive World Cups.
However, FIFA has commenced disciplinary proceedings against
South Africa for fielding an ineligible player in one of their qualifying
matches. The penalty might cost Bafana Bafana three points in the World Cup
race.
