Residents Flee as Bandits K!ll Pregnant Woman, Others in Kwara Villages

Bandits launched a deadly assault on Motokun, Egboro, and Fanagun villages in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, resulting in the death of a pregnant woman and others, with eight people abducted and several injured, according to Daily Trust.

Residents reported that the attackers, arriving in large numbers on motorcycles and armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the communities, firing indiscriminately and causing widespread panic.

A vigilante commander, Gina Gana, revealed that the attack followed a clash the previous day between security forces and bandits, during which cattle were rustled and four assailants were wounded.

The bandits operated unchecked for hours, abducting eight individuals, including three Fulani men and their cattle from Fanagun village.

They also stole at least 15 motorcycles. A local resident, Hon James Ibrahim, described the chaos: “We woke up to people fleeing Motokun after kidnappers invaded. A woman was shot and later died at Patigi General Hospital. We urge the government to intervene as these attacks are becoming frequent.”

Community leader Mallam Mohammed confirmed the abductions and noted the complexity of the situation, as intermarriages between Fulani families and locals make identifying informants challenging.

He added that a cleric visiting Motokun to preach was brutally killed and mutilated during the early morning attack between 6 and 7 a.m.

Mohammed highlighted that bandit attacks have become nearly weekly in villages like Lata, Ndanaku, Takarfu, Motokun, Egboro, and Lele.Residents expressed frustration over delayed security responses, with soldiers and vigilantes often arriving after the attackers had fled.

Following a community meeting three days prior, locals have resorted to prayers while appealing for government reinforcements. Patigi Local Government Chairman, Hon Ahmed Rufai Adam, confirmed the incident during a phone call, stating he was in a critical security meeting to address the crisis.
