Police arrests 4 for transformer vandalism in Niger


 Four suspects are currently in the Niger State Police command for allegedly vandalizing electric transformers in their community of Gbodoti village, Edati local government area of the state.



The suspects in custody are Mohammed Baba, Mohammed Ndako, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and Mohammed Ibrahim, all from Gbodoti village in Edati LGA


The state command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun made this disclosure in Minna said the suspects were arrested on September 3, 2025, at around 8 am for allegedly vandalizing electric transformers.


He explained that they were arrested based on intelligence reports, and during interrogation confessed to conspiring and stealing community transformer cables in Gbodoti and Guzzan villages.


They have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.


In a separate incident, the PRO stated that one, Muhammad Usman, a resident of Guiye-Doko village in Kwara State, was arrested by the police on September 5, 2025, at around 8:30 pm in Makera town in Mashegu LG of the state.


He revealed that the suspect was found in possession of two locally fabricated guns and six rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.


According to him, “During interrogation, Usman confessed to purchasing the arms in Soba village via Kaboji, Mashegu LGA, at a cost of N180,000 each and the ammunition at N5,000 each from an unidentified person”.


The police are currently investigating and working to identify and apprehend the arms fabricator.
