Nigeria striker, Victor Osimhen, sustained ankle ligament damage during the 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo on Saturday.
Osimhen travelled back to undergo scans with his club Galatasaray.
This means he will miss the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa on Tuesday.
Galatasaray’s team doctor, Yener İnce, confirmed the result of the scans in a medical bulletin released on Tuesday.
İnce reported that Osimhen has suffered “a moderate sprain (stretching and bleeding) was detected in his ankle ligaments and the necessary treatment has been initiated in order for our football player to return to the field as soon as possible.”
Osimhen was replaced by Cyriel Dessers after limping off during the first half of the game.
But it was Tolu Arokodare that scored the winning goal in the 51st minute and there are calls for the new Wolves striker to start in Bloemfontein.
