NUC Begins Nationwide Recruitment Drive for Abuja Headquarters


The National Universities Commission (NUC) has announced a nationwide recruitment exercise to fill multiple vacancies at its headquarters in Abuja, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for roles across various cadres. 


The initiative, aimed at bolstering the agency’s workforce, was detailed in a public notice issued on Friday.


The NUC is seeking candidates for positions in officer, confidential secretary, and clerical or auxiliary staff categories. 


“This recruitment is open to all eligible Nigerians who meet the specified requirements. Applications are free and must be submitted via our official careers portal,” the notice stated. 


Interested applicants are directed to visit careers.nuc.edu.ng or nuc.edu.ng for detailed guidelines and are required to submit their applications within six weeks from the announcement date. 


Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further screening.For the officer cadre, openings include Senior Officer (CONTISS 9), Trainee/Officer I (CONTISS 8), and Trainee Officer II (CONTISS 7). 


Senior Officer candidates must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline or a Master’s degree with at least six years of post-qualification experience, with additional professional certifications considered an advantage. 


Trainee/Officer I applicants need a Master’s degree or a first degree with at least three years of relevant experience, while Trainee Officer II candidates require a first degree in a related field.


The recruitment also includes Confidential Secretary I (CONTISS 7) positions, which require a Higher National Diploma in Secretarial Studies and three years of post-qualification experience. 


Clerical and auxiliary roles cover a range of positions, including Assistant Cameraman, Data Processing Assistant, Artisan/Craftsman (carpenter, plumber, electrician, and air-conditioning mechanic), Lift Operator, and Motor Driver/Mechanic. 


Qualifications for these roles vary from a First School Leaving Certificate to an ‘O’ Level certificate with trade test credentials, supported by relevant technical training or experience.


Established in 1962 and granted statutory powers in 1974, the NUC is responsible for accrediting programs, licensing new universities, and ensuring quality standards across Nigeria’s 283 recognized universities, comprising 72 federal, 67 state, and 168 private institutions. 


This recruitment drive underscores the Commission’s commitment to strengthening its capacity to regulate and elevate the nation’s higher education system.
