In a series of coordinated operations within the last 24 hours, Nigerian Army troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, apprehended a notorious IPOB/ESN commander, rescued 12 kidnap victims, and neutralized terrorists across multiple regions, a senior source at Army Headquarters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.
Troops from the 34 Artillery Brigade arrested the IPOB/ESN kingpin at his hideout in Aku-Ihube, Okigwe LGA, Imo State, recovering an English pistol, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 25 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, one cartridge, six mobile phones, military and police uniforms, and a German flag.
The operation also uncovered a workshop dismantling stolen vehicles for resale and destroyed 10 motorcycles at the site.In anti-kidnapping efforts, troops rescued five victims in Madagali LGA, Adamawa State, five in Kukasheka Ward, Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State, and two in Lokoja LGA, Kogi State.
In Katsina, two terrorists were neutralized in separate encounters, with troops recovering an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle.
In Benue, one violent extremist was neutralized, and a mobile phone and charms were seized.Additionally, 11 suspects were arrested across Benue, Kogi, and Kaduna States for crimes including armed robbery, gun-running, and extremist activities.
In Plateau, 40 rustled cattle were recovered and returned to their owners.The source credited the successes to sustained synergy between the Nigerian Army, sister services, and other security agencies, reaffirming the army’s commitment to fostering a secure environment to support agriculture and socio-economic growth in alignment with the Federal Government’s food security goals.
