Nigeria, DCO Launch Partnership to Empower Women in Tech at UNGA

Nigeria has forged a transformative partnership with the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) to advance women’s participation in the technology sector, announced during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The collaboration, sealed by H.E. Deemah AlYahya, DCO Secretary-General, and Nigerian representatives, aims to empower women through enhanced digital access and support for women-led businesses.

The initiative merges Nigeria’s Digital Harmony Project with the DCO’s WeElevate program, focusing on three key pillars: boosting digital literacy, promoting online safety, and connecting women entrepreneurs to investors.

This landmark deal seeks to bridge the gender gap in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem, fostering a more inclusive digital economy.

“This partnership is a bold step toward empowering Nigerian women to thrive in the digital age, ensuring they have the skills, safety, and opportunities to lead in technology,” AlYahya said during the UNGA announcement.

The collaboration aligns with Nigeria’s broader push for digital transformation and gender equity, addressing barriers that have historically limited women’s access to tech resources.

The Digital Harmony Project will roll out training programs to enhance digital skills, while WeElevate will provide mentorship and funding opportunities for women-led startups.

By prioritizing online safety, the initiative also aims to create secure digital spaces for women to innovate and grow their businesses.

Stakeholders have hailed the deal as a game-changer, with Nigerian officials emphasizing its potential to drive economic growth and social inclusion.

As UNGA discussions continue, this partnership sets a strong precedent for global efforts to empower women in the digital economy.
