There was huge drama in Tokyo on Thursday as American star Rai Benjamin, who initially crossed the line first in the men’s 400m hurdles final, was dramatically disqualified for displacing a hurdle and interfering with another athlete.
The shock decision reshuffled the podium and brought joy to Nigeria after Ezekiel Nathaniel was officially upgraded to the bronze medal position. Nathaniel, who clocked an impressive 47.11 seconds to set a new Nigerian record, now earns his place in history with a podium finish.
