In a tragic incident in Nyakala community, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Inspector Lasare Jeremiah, a police officer from the Criminal Investigation Department, and a suspect, Audu Abdullahi, lost their lives due to a mob attack on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
According to the state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, the incident began when detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) were investigating a petition against Abdullahi, a resident of Kishika Village.
The detectives spotted Abdullahi riding a motorcycle in Binchi Village and followed him to Nyakala Village, where they intercepted him.
Abdullahi raised a false alarm, alleging that the officers were motorcycle thieves, inciting a mob to attack Inspector Jeremiah.
Upon realizing their error, the mob turned on Abdullahi, attacking him as well. Both victims were rushed to Cottage Hospital in Kisalloi, Bassa, where Jeremiah succumbed to his injuries. Abdullahi was later transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital, where he also died.
DSP Alfred confirmed that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the mob action.
The State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. The case is under investigation by the SCID in Jos.
