Despite social media speculation about being on terminal leave, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), chaired the commission’s routine weekly meeting on Thursday.
The meeting addressed key electoral preparations and approved promotions for 471 junior staff members.
Mr. Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, stated that the meeting reviewed preparations for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, the Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and party primaries for the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.
The commission approved the promotion of 471 junior staff (GL 03-06) based on the recommendations of the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC). Of the 515 staff shortlisted, 214 were promoted to GL07, 134 to GL06, 106 to GL05, and 17 to GL04.
This marks the completion of the first phase of promotions, with senior staff promotions now underway.
Olumekun emphasized INEC’s commitment to merit-based promotions and staff welfare, urging employees to remain dedicated, particularly in supporting upcoming elections and electoral activities.
