The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has introduced drones to enhance traffic monitoring and security surveillance across Lagos, shifting from traditional manual methods to advanced digital tools.
At the programme’s launch, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki explained that the drones will provide real-time aerial views of major roads, enabling faster responses to traffic congestion and emergencies.
“This is more than just equipment; it’s a strategic move to lead in digital traffic management. The drones will improve safety, emergency coordination, security, and promote better road discipline,” he said.
The drones will conduct high-definition aerial reconnaissance, allowing proactive interventions without relying solely on physical patrols.
Bakare-Oki assured that operations will follow strict ethical and regulatory guidelines to protect privacy and maintain public trust.
The initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda, which prioritizes technology for better urban management.
LASTMA noted that the drones, alongside its toll-free hotline, will speed up responses to accidents and emergencies, reduce travel time, and enhance road safety and discipline across Lagos.
