Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed openness to rejoining the All Progressives Congress (APC), but only if the party offers a clear and significant role for his political camp.
Speaking at a recent event, Kwankwaso emphasized his pivotal role in founding the APC and demanded recognition for his contributions, warning against being sidelined as in the past.
"If you said I should enter APC, I want to join APC, and I didn’t say I will not join APC even now, but for what position?" Kwankwaso stated, highlighting the need for a defined role.
He recalled the struggles to establish the APC, noting, "We are the ones who established the party. We challenged the federal government then and faced many threats from the EFCC, ICPC, police, SSS, and others."
Kwankwaso expressed frustration over the lack of appreciation during the APC’s eight-year tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari, stating, "We were not given anything, not even a 'thank you,' because our faction of the PDP didn’t start with them."
He also recounted his experience with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which similarly failed to value his contributions, offering no significant roles like a Zonal Chairman.
The NNPP leader revealed his political relevance, asserting, "Whoever you are, if you mention Nigerian politicians, you must mention Kwankwaso."
He emphasized that his value grew after leaving the APC and PDP, particularly through the NNPP’s successes.
However, he remains open to collaboration, stating, "We’re not in a hurry to leave the NNPP; we’re happy. However, if there is anyone who wants to work with us truthfully and will not abandon us as before, we are ready."
Kwankwaso also left the door open for reconciliation with the PDP, provided they acknowledge past mistakes and make transparent commitments.
"If the PDP comes back and says they made a mistake and will do this and that, let’s make promises where everyone can see them," he said.
