New Mental Health Department: A dedicated unit under KADSAMHSA will oversee accessible, humane care and rehabilitation.
Human Rights Protections: Bans harmful practices like chaining and ensures equal rights.
Community Care: Integrates mental health into primary healthcare, especially in rural areas.
Anti-Discrimination: Prohibits bias in jobs and housing.
Focus on Vulnerable Groups: Prioritizes perinatal care for women and services for youth.
Governor Sani called it a “beacon of hope” for dignity and inclusion. Effective in 2025, with preparations underway, Kaduna sets a model for compassionate mental health reform in Nigeria.
