Gov Uba Sani Rejects El-Rufai’s Mentorship, Names Tinubu, Fawehinmi as True Leaders

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has refuted claims by his predecessor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, that he was among those mentored by him.

Instead, Sani credits President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi as the primary figures who shaped his political journey. In a recent television interview, El-Rufai named Sani as one of his political mentees, citing his pride in elevating others to influential roles.

Responding on TVC, Sani dismissed the claim, stating, “I don’t think it is necessary for me to respond to that comment. I have no time for it.”

He emphasized his focus on serving the people of Kaduna and avoiding personal disputes.

Sani highlighted his long-standing ties with Tinubu, whom he met in 1994 at Beko Ransom Kuti’s house, describing him as a leader.

He also paid tribute to Fawehinmi, calling him a father figure who hosted him during his activism days.

“My focus is Kaduna. I don’t get distracted,” Sani said, underscoring his commitment to governance over political banter.

Sani, who served as El-Rufai’s political adviser from 2015 to 2019, won the Kaduna Central senatorial seat in 2019 with El-Rufai’s support, before becoming governor.
