Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has revealed that the club experiences “tremendous tension” whenever Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen travels to Nigeria for international duties.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, September 7, 2025, Buruk highlighted concerns about Osimhen’s safety and the logistical challenges of his trips, given Nigeria’s security issues and the intense demands of international football.
“We are always afraid to send Osimhen to Nigeria,” Buruk said, as reported by The Nation Newspaper.
“The uncertainty surrounding his travel and the situation there makes us uneasy, but we understand his commitment to representing his country.”
Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli in August 2025, has been a key player for the Turkish club, scoring three goals in four matches this season.
The coach’s comments come amid Nigeria’s ongoing struggles with insecurity, including banditry and insurgent activities in parts of the country, which have raised concerns for international clubs with Nigerian players.
Despite these worries, Osimhen remains a vital part of Nigeria’s national team, recently featuring in African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Buruk praised Osimhen’s professionalism, noting that the club works closely with him to ensure his safe return and optimal performance.
Galatasaray’s management has implemented measures to monitor Osimhen’s travels, including coordinating with the Nigerian Football Federation to ensure his safety.
