Fubara’s Supporters Throng Port Harcourt Airport to Welcome Governor Fubara

A large crowd of supporters gathered at the VIP wing of Port Harcourt International Airport on Friday, September 19, 2025, eagerly awaiting the arrival of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Sources confirmed to Channels Television that Fubara, who has been absent from the state, is expected to return soon following the lifting of a six-month emergency rule.

The emergency rule, declared by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025, stemmed from a political crisis involving Fubara, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, and House of Assembly Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

The turmoil led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and state lawmakers, with Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) appointed as sole administrator.

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Tinubu announced the end of the emergency, restoring democratic governance.

Despite the Rivers State House of Assembly resuming sessions on Thursday, Fubara did not appear at the Government House, where hundreds of supporters had gathered to welcome him.

The governor’s absence fueled speculation, but Wike, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on September 18, confirmed a recent phone conversation with Fubara, emphasizing reconciliation and dismissing claims of ongoing tension.

“I’ve forgiven Fubara... Peace has returned,” Wike stated, noting that the governor has no legal obligation to resume duties immediately.
