Dr. Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, Nigeria's Minister of State for Finance, has been bestowed with the revered chieftaincy title of Ada Ukwu Ndi Orlu Zone by His Imperial Majesty, Eze (Dr) Thomas Obiwuru Obiefule, the Paramount Ruler of Umudioka Ancient Kingdom in Orlu Local Government Area, Imo State.
The conferment, which took place recently, recognizes Uzoka-Anite's exemplary contributions to peace, progress, and development both within her home region and across the nation.
Eze Obiefule, also known as Okairuro I Okwara Akubueze II, personally presented the certificate during a visit to the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja, underscoring the honor's personal and communal importance.
"Ada Ukwu," translating to "Great Daughter" or "First Daughter" in Igbo, is a distinguished title reserved for women who embody service, integrity, and leadership, making it a profound acknowledgment of Uzoka-Anite's trailblazing role in public service.
Eze Obiefule praised her as "one of the distinguished daughters of Orlu that we are proud of," highlighting her unwavering support for development initiatives and her commitment to uplifting her people.
In her response, Uzoka-Anite expressed deep gratitude and renewed dedication. "By the grace of God, I will continue to uphold the dignity of this office and work for peace, opportunity, and prosperity for the people of Orlu Zone, Imo State, and Nigeria as a whole," she stated, emphasizing her resolve to bridge traditional values with modern governance.
A medical doctor by training, Uzoka-Anite holds an MBBS from the University of Benin (1999) and a TRIUM Global Executive MBA, complemented by advanced financial certifications from Oxford University.
Her career trajectory is marked by high-level roles in banking and public administration, including serving as General Manager at Zenith Bank Plc and Commissioner for Finance in Imo State under Governor Hope Uzodinma's administration.
Appointed Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment in August 2023, she transitioned to her current position as Minister of State for Finance in October 2024, where she plays a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria's economic policies amid global challenges.
The event drew notable figures from the finance sector, including Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun; Permanent Secretary Special Duties, Mr. Raymond Omenka Omachi; Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi; Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Mrs. Olu Verheijen; and Managing Director of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Dr. Armstrong Takang.
