Delhi Police Detain Three Nigerians for Illegal Stay in India

The Operations Cell of Delhi Police’s South West District has detained three Nigerian nationals for allegedly residing in India without valid documentation, local media reported on Saturday.

The detainees, identified as Eloumuno Gabriel (29, Anambra), Chinedu Paulinus (33, Asaba), and Sunusi Sani (26, Lagos), face deportation through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in New Delhi after legal formalities are completed.

Acting on intelligence about illegal African migrants, police intercepted the trio in Sagarpur and Palam village.

The suspects claimed to hold valid visas registered with the Nigerian embassy, but verification with the High Commission of Nigeria and India’s Immigration Department confirmed they had overstayed their permitted duration.

They failed to produce valid visa documents and admitted to residing in India without authorization.A search of their mobile phones uncovered copies of their passports and Nigerian identity cards.

The men disclosed they were working housekeeping jobs in Shahpura, Gurugram, and Noida, while living in Dwarka Sector-01 near Palam village, and were seeking further employment at the time of their detention.

This follows a similar case last month, where FRRO detained another Nigerian in Chhatarpur for illegal stay after a local resident’s petition to the Delhi High Court.

Delhi Police and FRRO reiterated that deportation processes are underway in compliance with Indian immigration laws.
