The decomposed body of a 55-year-old man, identified as Gaddafi Iwar, was discovered inside a red Peugeot 406 parked outside the annex gate of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Sunday.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama. The discovery has raised serious questions about security protocols and oversight, as the vehicle reportedly remained unnoticed for days in the heavily guarded area.
Iwar, a Tiv man believed to be a labourer at a construction site within the complex, was found lifeless in the vehicle with the registration number BWR-577 BF.
Security personnel evacuated the body to the National Assembly Clinic for medical confirmation, but due to advanced decomposition, it was rejected by Asokoro General Hospital.
Leaders from the Tiv community, alongside youth representatives, transported the remains to Gbawu Village, a border town between Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Kuje Area Council, for burial to prevent potential health risks.
The incident has sparked concern among workers and passersby, with many questioning how a decomposing body went undetected in a high-security zone where vehicles and individuals are subject to rigorous checks.
“This raises serious issues about the effectiveness of security measures at the National Assembly,” a source told Zagazola Makama.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the cause of Iwar’s death or the duration the vehicle was parked before the discovery, fueling speculation and calls for a thorough investigation.
