Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara returned to Port Harcourt on Friday, September 19, 2025, landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport at approximately 12:19 p.m.
His arrival came over 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu lifted the six-month state of emergency in Rivers State, declared on March 18, 2025, due to a political crisis.
A large crowd of supporters gathered at the VIP wing of the airport to welcome Fubara, who had been absent from state governance alongside his deputy, Ngozi Odu, during the emergency period.
On Thursday, September 18, hundreds of residents had also assembled around the Government House, anticipating his return, but Fubara did not appear despite the House of Assembly resuming its session that day.
President Tinubu had appointed retired Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the state’s administrator during the emergency rule. With the emergency lifted, Fubara’s return marks the resumption of his administration’s leadership in Rivers State.
