The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, announced that 68 inmates successfully passed the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations, marking a significant milestone in their rehabilitation.
The achievement, facilitated by the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education and fully sponsored by the Kano State Government, was disclosed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Musbahu Lawan, in a statement on Monday, September 22, 2025.
Lawan highlighted that the initiative aligns with the Correctional Service Act of 2019, which prioritizes inmate reformation through education and vocational training.
“This success reflects the directive of Controller General Sylvester Indidi-Nwakuche, urging custodial centres nationwide to enroll inmates in academic and vocational programs to equip them with skills for reintegration as responsible citizens,” he said.
The effort supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to transform lives, including those in custodial facilities.
The inmates expressed immense joy, describing the achievement as a pivotal moment in their journey toward reformation.
Controller of Corrections for Kano State, Ado Inuwa, praised the inmates’ performance and wished them continued success in their rehabilitation efforts.
Azumi Namadi-Bebeje, Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy, congratulated the inmates and commended Governor Abba Yusuf for his commitment to inmate welfare.
She emphasized the state’s dedication to empowering inmates through education, enabling them to become positive contributors to society upon release.
