The Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Ezra Barkins, alongside Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, and Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Michael Oganwu, visited Omu-Aran in Ifelodun and Isin Local Government Areas to restore calm and reassure residents of their safety following recent violent protests.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement, said the visit was prompted by a distress call from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq after youths blocked sections of the Omu-Aran–Eleyin–Ajase road in Isin LGA, protesting a surge in kidnappings.
The roadblock disrupted commuter movement and heightened tensions in the area.Troops from the 22 Armoured Brigade, in collaboration with the Police and DSS, swiftly mobilized to disperse the protesters, restore order, and reopen the road.
Identified ringleaders were arrested and handed over to the Kwara State Police Command for further investigation.
Addressing residents after the operation, Commander Barkins reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to their safety and urged youths to channel grievances through lawful and peaceful means.
“Cooperation with security agencies is crucial in combating kidnapping and other crimes,” he said, calling for timely and credible community intelligence to enable rapid response.
The security chiefs also met with Isin LGA Chairman Jolayemi Benjamin, village heads, and other stakeholders, encouraging them to guide youths against violence and foster stronger ties with security agencies.
Benjamin praised the prompt intervention and pledged continued support for efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.
The operation and subsequent engagements underscore the commitment of Kwara’s security apparatus to restoring calm and addressing the root causes of unrest in affected communities.
