WAEC Complicit in Exam Leaks, Says NUT Lagos

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Lagos has accused the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) of being aware of and complicit in exam question leaks.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Lagos Chapter has accused the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) of failing to address known websites leaking WASSCE questions, fueling examination malpractice.

NUT Chairman Hassan Akintoye, speaking at a Lagos press briefing, criticized WAEC’s inaction, claiming it undermines the 2025 WASSCE’s credibility.

Akintoye highlighted a 33.8% drop in pass rates from 2024, with only 38.32% of candidates achieving credits in five subjects, including English and Mathematics.

He urged WAEC to adopt computer-based testing and collaborate with authorities to shut down leak sources.

WAEC recently debunked claims of canceled results, reaffirming anti-malpractice measures like withholding 262,803 results in 2023.

The NUT called for urgent reforms to restore trust in Nigeria’s education system, warning that unchecked leaks harm students and national development.
