FG Disburses Second Tranche of N35,000 Wage Award Arrears to Workers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has paid the second tranche of the N35,000 wage award arrears to federal workers, marking another step in fulfilling its commitment to support public sector employees amid economic challenges.

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed the disbursement in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, signed by Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations.

The payment is part of a five-month wage award arrears package, with the first tranche already disbursed earlier this year.

According to the OAGF, three more monthly instalments remain to clear the outstanding arrears.

“The Federal Government has paid the second tranche of the outstanding N35,000 wage award arrears to federal government workers,” the statement read.

“With the payment of the second tranche, there remain three tranches to exhaust the wage award arrears.”

The wage award, initiated in 2023 as part of a palliative package following the removal of the fuel subsidy, aims to cushion the effects of inflation and rising living costs on federal workers.

The total package amounts to N175,000 per worker, paid in five monthly instalments of N35,000 each.

The OAGF dismissed speculations that the government had abandoned the payment plan, reaffirming its commitment to completing the disbursements.

“Contrary to insinuations in some quarters, the Federal Government has not reneged on payment of the wage award arrears,” Mokwa stated.

The latest payment follows the first tranche disbursed in May 2025, which reached many federal civil servants, though some are still awaiting their funds due to payroll processing delays.

The OAGF urged patience from workers yet to receive their payments, assuring them that the system is actively processing all entitlements.

The wage award has been a critical lifeline for workers grappling with economic pressures exacerbated by subsidy removal and currency devaluation.

The government’s ongoing efforts to clear the arrears have been met with cautious optimism, with workers hopeful that the remaining tranches will be paid promptly.

“The Federal Government will continue to pay the wage award in instalments of N35,000 per month until the outstanding arrears are exhausted,” the OAGF concluded, signaling its dedication to supporting Nigeria’s workforce during these challenging times.
