VP Shettima Leads Delegation to Kogi, Condoles Governor Ododo on Father's Passing


Vice President Kashim Shettima led a high-level delegation to Kogi State on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, to offer condolences to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo following the passing of his father, Alhaji Ahmed Momohsani Ododo. 


The patriarch died on Monday, August 18, at the age of 83, after the 2 pm Muslim prayers.In a heartfelt condolence message delivered during the visit to the governor’s hometown in Upogoro, Okene Local Government Area, Vice President Shettima described the late Alhaji Ododo as a revered community leader and devout Muslim whose legacy of integrity and service continues to reflect in the leadership of Governor Ododo. 


“Alhaji Ahmed was a pillar of faith and community service, whose values are evident in the exemplary governance of his son. His life was a testament to devotion and moral uprightness,” Shettima stated, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha. 


The Vice President, joined by prominent figures including former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello, traditional leaders, and Islamic clerics, attended the Janazah (funeral prayers) led by the Chief Imam of Okene Central Mosque, Alhaji Salihu Abere. 


The burial, conducted in accordance with Islamic rites, drew a large gathering of family, friends, and well-wishers paying their final respects to the late patriarch.


Shettima, speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, urged Governor Ododo and his family to find solace in their father’s impactful life and the enduring values he instilled. 


“The loss of such a figure is felt not only by the Ododo family but by the entire Kogi community and beyond. We pray for Almighty Allah to grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and strength to the bereaved,” he added. 


Governor Ododo, visibly moved, expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s visit and the outpouring of support from across Nigeria. 


He noted that his father’s life of service and humility would continue to inspire his administration’s commitment to the people of Kogi State.


Other dignitaries, including members of the South-West Governors Forum and APC leaders, have also extended condolences, highlighting Alhaji Ododo’s significant influence as a community leader.
