Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), alongside the EIB STRATOC team, eliminated three suspected kidnappers during a failed ransom collection in Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, on August 4, 2025, successfully rescuing Corporal Munyal Abdullahi.
Abdullahi, a soldier from 3 Division Garrison, was abducted on August 2 along the Jos-Makurdi road at Rafin Sanyi while traveling to Abuja without authorization.
OPSH’s Sector 6 tracked ransom negotiations to Kwakwi, Riyom LGA, where the victim’s family dropped N500,000 as demanded.At approximately 5:35 p.m., troops spotted a suspect carrying a bag believed to hold the ransom, heading toward a POS shop.
He diverted to a bush path to meet his gang but raised an alarm upon noticing the troops, causing his accomplices to flee.
In the ensuing chase, three kidnappers were neutralized, and troops recovered N312,000, two knives, three mobile phones, and an AirPod. Abdullahi escaped during the clash and rejoined his unit safely.
The operation, conducted across Farin Lamba, Maraban Jema’a, and Ganawuri, highlights OPSH’s resolve to combat kidnapping in the region.
